Fit Bottomed Zen was co-founded by Jennipher Walters, Erin Whitehead and Kristen Seymour. Due to the sites’ increasing popularity, they have expanded the team to include contributing writers, bringing new content and other fun, fresh perspectives to the sites.
Jennipher Walters: As co-founder and co-author of The Fit Bottomed Girls Anti-Diet and Editor-in-Chief at Fit Bottomed Girls and Fit Bottomed Zen, Jenn has several fitness credentials under her belt: She is an ACE-certified personal trainer, health coach, and advanced health and fitness specialist, and an AFAA-certified group exercise instructor. Jenn has a journalism degree from the University of Missouri and an MA in health journalism from the University of Minnesota. She has also written for numerous online publications including Shape magazine, The Huffington Post, SparkPeople and Diets in Review. In her free time, Jenn can be found doing HIIT workouts with her husband, making a mean green smoothie, meditating, running with her pup and snuggling with her daughter.
Erin Whitehead: Erin, co-founder and co-author of The Fit Bottomed Girls Anti-Diet and Editor-in-Chief at Fit Bottomed Mamas, is an ACE-certified personal trainer with years of workout experience under her belt. Erin has a journalism degree from the University of Kansas and is a bit of a word nerd. Born and raised in Topeka, Kan., Erin has settled in New Jersey after living — and loving — time spent in Lawrence, Kan., and Menlo Park, Calif. When not working out, Erin can be found hanging with her husband and three kids. Her fave pastimes include reading and devouring entire seasons of TV shows in just days via Netflix.
Kristen Seymour: Kristen Seymour is the third partner at Fit Bottomed Girls and holds the position of Editor-in-Chief at Fit Bottomed Eats. She’s an enthusiastic (if not particularly speedy) triathlete, enormous animal lover, and passionate pescatarian foodie (with a special love of Mexican food and roasted veggies). She relies on her dogs to get her outside when she’s feeling lazy, and counts on Twitter (and her fellow FBGs) to motivate her to hit the gym — works like a charm every time. Kristen makes time for yoga — at least a little bit — almost every day and is slowly but steadily making meditation a regular practice, even on (well, especially on) the days when all she can think about is how she can’t possibly make time to just sit and be. She’s a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!), and she and her husband live, swim, bike and run in the Sunshine State with their two mutts and a mercurial cat.
Anagha Bharadwaj: Anagha has spent the last several years lurking around FBG, visiting often for community and inspiration. She has a life-long inability to choose just one hobby, and as result, enjoys running, swimming, biking, and hiking (but no triathlon-ing…yet). She currently lives in DC, where she loves to read books, explore the city on her bicycle, and, in her spare time, attend law school. She’s almost a yoga instructor, and enjoys reading about the mental aspect of yoga, and yoga theory, just as much as she enjoys the physical practice itself. She also writes regularly for a blog she co-owns with a friend, called Cooking in Pajamas, which details the duo’s culinary exploits.
Alex Bisges: Alex believes quality of life is dependent (external) self-care. She shares ways of simultaneously maintaining mental and physical well-being. Alex is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, with a degree in communication studies and political science. Alex has worked in journalism and marketing for a variety of companies as well as news outlets. She joined the FBZ team in March of 2016. With an undeniable passion for life, Alex propels herself into new experiences. She recently learned how to longboard (without a natural talent for coordination). She has found longboarding to be an excellent form of cardio, meditation and and overall — an excellent time. In her free time, Alex can be found traveling, stargazing and laughing.
Alison Heilig: Alison’s journey has taken her from unhealthy fitness phobe to ultra-marathoner, triathlete, obstacle course racer, and yogini. Since leaving her corporate legal career in 2015, she’s been dedicated full-time to following her passion for helping others unleash their own inner superhero and blogging about her (many) shenanigans at ThePursuitOfAwesome.com. Alison is a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Women’s Fitness Specialist, RRCA-Certified Running Coach and a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher with regular classes at Thrive Yoga and CrossFit Become in Montgomery County, MD. She lives in the suburbs of Washington, DC with her awesome husband (and biggest fan) Chris.
Megan Hinman: Megan has a love-hate relationship with long-distance running and is consistently involved in many other fitness activities. She’s a frequent 5k competitor and will run her first half marathon this Spring. Her weekly indoor soccer games help keep her motivated, though her frequent minor injuries and busy schedule do not. When not caught in her eternal debate, “to run or not to run?,” Megan is working toward her master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Kansas, writing silly stories and musings for her personal blog, or hanging out at home with her dogs and boyfriend, fixing up the place and all the while wondering how soon she can go to sleep again.
Erika Morgan: Erika has been with FBG as of April 2014 as an intern and now as an assistant editor! She is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City, with a degree in communications. Erika currently is a grad student at The University of Kansas working towards her Masters in Integrated Marketing Communications. She enjoys anything that involves creativity, and after losing 30 pounds a few years ago, she really became passionate about health and fitness. FBG seemed to be a perfect fit for her in order to combine her two passions. She really enjoys the outdoors (minus the bugs), cooking and eating, playing the piano, and she has a minor online-shopping addiction. And she’s also a little pet crazy with three dogs and a 20-pound cat!
Karen Timper: With exercise experience spanning three decades, Karen’s desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle has stayed constant over the years. A true fitness enthusiast, she estimates she’s completed more than 5,000 workouts, but remains eager to check out the latest fitness craze and never misses an opportunity to improve herself. Coupled with her degree in Hospitality Management from the American Culinary Federation Chefs Apprenticeship Program, Karen lends her real life experience to both FBG and Fit Bottomed Eats. These days she can usually be found in her kitchen taste testing recipes or at the gym working off her latest creation.
Sean Vigue: Sean is perhaps the only fitness instructor/opera singer in the world and was recently named one of the “Top 50 Online Workout Resources” by The Huffington Post. This year he wrote three bestselling fitness books, Power Yoga for Athletes, Pilates for Men and Sean Vigue’s 30 Day Beginner Program with more on the way. He has appeared in 2,000 workout videos and taught more than 6,000 live yoga, Pilates, power yoga, flexibility training and Spinning classes, while creating a line of workout DVDs, tending to his popular YouTube channel and building his online training program, Sean’s Vault. Sean lives in the Colorado Rockies with his beautiful wife Jillian and their furry dog/Beast Adelaide (Addie) who steals the show in every workout video she appears in. Sean is honored to be the “most watched yoga and Pilates guy on the planet!” and looks forward to working out with you from anywhere in the world.
Sara Yamtich: Sara is a self-proclaimed multipotentialite, which basically means that she’s had multiple careers and is an unapologetic dabbler. She has undergraduate degrees in anthropology and gender studies and a masters in social work. She’s been a social worker, policy wonk, non-profit marketer, writer/editor and yoga instructor. Having lived on both coasts, the Midwest and on another continent, Sara now resides in California, where she blogs and works as a life coach to help unconventional individuals turn their dreams into real-life revolutions. She loves red wine every bit as much as she loves green juice. And she’s generally reading three books at any given moment. Follow her on Twitter, @saralizer.
Currently, FBZ is not looking to expand its team. If this changes, we’ll be sure to let you know!
